Manager of Human Resources Services

The Manager of Human Resources (HR) Services is a strategic partner who is responsible for collaborating with the leadership team to support planning and developing our HR Strategy to deliver an exceptional employee and customer experience. This role is primarily responsible for working in conjunction with our leaders to support the identification of staffing needs, recruitment, selection, on-boarding and the performance development of new hires. This position will also support the development and management of programs such as training, performance development and management, compensation, and also provide escalation support for leaders and employees, in alignment with our company policies. The Manager of HR Services will be responsible for reviewing all current HR practices and policies, and based on emerging trends and changing regulatory requirements make recommendations on changes required to ensure a solid and effective HR infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

Working collaboratively with the leadership team:

  • Culture Advocate - support AFM mission, vision, commitments and core values; work with employees and leaders to cultivate strong relationships with each other and our policyholders
  • Change Management Support – lead and support change initiatives
  • Employee Engagement –develop employee engagement programs, coordinate employee surveys, lead the analysis of employee feedback and data, and develop employee engagement programs to support a great work environment and engaged culture
  • Recruitment – develop creative sourcing and recruitment strategies to deliver a strong talent pipeline and proactively support the recruitment and selection of top talent for current and future opportunities
  • Performance Development – develop an employee onboarding, training, succession, leadership and career development strategy and any supporting programs
  • Performance Management – support the development of job profiles, goals and performance evaluations, and provide escalation and liaise support, as required for leaders and employees
  • Compensation & Payroll – conduct compensation evaluations, support development of compensation strategy, pay scales and complete monthly payroll submissions
  • Act as an Advisor – research and provide information on HR and employee trends, and provide advice to the leadership team based on performance and legislative trends and/or inquiries
  • Employee Relations –act as a point of contact to support leader and employee queries on HR policies, benefits and issue resolution
  • HR Programs – create and implement HR programs and policies, in compliance with appropriate regulations
  • Act as Privacy Officer – oversee all of the activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance and adherence to AFM’s privacy policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of strategic Human Resources experience (preference as a generalist)
  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in HR or related field
  • Comprehensive knowledge & application of all HR legislation
  • CHRP/ CHRL designation would be an asset
  • Insurance industry or professional services experience is preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate culturally-aligned development and implementation of key aspects of HR infrastructure
  • Pension and Benefits – general knowledge of pension and benefit programs
  • Ability to communicate both written and orally with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Able to handle situations with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity

Commercial Underwriter

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and foster strong relationships with our Agents and Brokers, providing expertise and working together to build solutions to profitably grow our commercial lines portfolio, in alignment with our strategic priorities.
  • Risk assessment, coverage and pricing evaluation using underwriting guidelines, pricing models and authority limits, as set out by the Company.
  • Support a portfolio of business providing exceptional customer service to our policyholders through underwriting, accurate and responsive handling of quotes, new business, endorsements and policy renewals.

Requirements:

The successful applicant will be an effective communicator who can work collaboratively with our experienced team of underwriters, adjusters, loss prevention specialists, Agents and Brokers.

This will require:

  • A rigorous, methodical and deductive approach to problem solving with strong critical thinking capabilities
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Professional, positive and courteous interactions with customers, Agents, Brokers and co-workers
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, good organizational skills and the ability to work within a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail, time management and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial policies, guidelines, wordings and have sound investigative, judgment and decision making abilities
  • Commitment to continuing education and involvement in industry networking opportunities
  • Exposure to agricultural underwriting would be considered an asset
